Despite having a bad reputation and a negative connotation, hypnosis is in fact a positive process that has been used for thousands of years. Many people aren't aware that many of the commonly accepted ideas about hypnosis aren't even true. It is important to ask what is hypnosis and learn the facts so that you can make educated decisions and not spread false information.

First Thing's First

So what is hypnosis anyway? Hypnosis can be defined as the process of inducing a state of relaxation and heightened awareness. Under this state, the power of suggestion is used to inspire relaxation, self improvement, or the healing process. People in this relaxed state find it easier to acknowledge such suggestions; however, some people are more receptive to hypnosis than others.

Hypnosis, a History

Hypnosis is not a recent development or practice-it has been used for thousands of years. The ancient Greeks and Romans have been thought use have used hypnosis for therapeutic reasons in the 4th century BC. Sleep temples were popular in Egypt during ancient times. In these sleep temples, Egyptians would lie down and listen to a healer chant. This was thought to cure illness. Hypnosis was also used by doctors throughout the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The hypnotic process was finally recognized by the United States and Britain as a useful therapeutic tool in the 1950s.

A False Stereotype and False Ideas

The stereotypical idea of what is hypnosis comes from stage hypnosis and hypnosis in the movies. These portrayals of hypnosis give the impression that hypnosis can be sued to control or manipulate people to do things-when in fact this is not true at all. There are many false ideas and misconceptions about what is hypnosis. For example, many people think that you are asleep during hypnosis.

This is not true; one remains awake at all times during hypnosis. Other people think that some sort of amnesiac state will occur after hypnosis and that it will be impossible to remember anything that happened-wrong again! Someone who is being hypnotized will be able to remember everything after the process is over.

So what are some true things about what is hypnosis? Well, it is true that everyone can be hypnotized, though some are more susceptible than others. It is also true that hypnosis is a natural state of mind; in fact, the technical names for the states of mind are either the alpha or theta states of mind.

By asking what is hypnosis, perhaps we can finally separate the true meaning of hypnosis from the stereotypes that have been associated with it for thousands of years.

Let's follow Susan as she goes to her first acupuncture treatment. Susan is a little hesitant, thinking of many needles sticking out of her in funny places so that she can't find a place to sit easily. Her friend Marie had recommended this acupuncture clinic as a possible help for Susan's recent problems of sleeplessness and depression. Susan was very surprised that Marie had ever visited an acupuncture clinic, as Marie didn't seem to be someone that would visit something this unusual. And anyway, Marie always seems so remarkably healthy, attending the gym on a regular basis and still having lots of energy to spare. Susan was surprised to find out that Marie had been going to this acupuncture clinic for more than three years. She was even more surprised to find out that the first visit was suggested by Marie's doctor - her family physician. Susan had no idea that a regular doctor would recommend a visit to an acupuncture clinic.

It turns out that a few years ago Marie had very intense cramps, and after a discussion with her doctor, they decided acupuncture might help to reduce or eliminate these. After having that treatment, Marie had discovered that some people visit the acupuncture clinic periodically just to keep in good health. Marie really enjoyed the way she felt, and so continued with the periodic visits as a kind of "tune up," as she called them.

Though this is Susan's first treatment at the acupuncture clinic, it is her second visit. Her first visit was to sit with the acupuncture practitioner to take several vital signs and to have a long discussion about her symptoms. Susan explained that she was hoping to get relief from the sleeplessness and depression through the treatments at the acupuncture clinic. She was surprised at the number of questions that she hadn't thought about. She hadn't noticed if the sleeplessness was the same on every night, or if she got to sleep more easily on some nights. She hadn't noticed if she easily returned to sleep if she was awakened once she was asleep. She hadn't thought about whether the sleeplessness started after they turned off the central heat in the house, now that spring had come. There were so many questions about that. There were questions she had expected, like that her depression could be related to the fact that her best friend at work had left for a new job. There were also surprising questions about patterns that she noticed about any previous depressions that she might have had. Once all the questions had been answered, Susan was asked to return another day for her first treatment in order to obtain the most beneficial results.

Susan pulled into the parking lot, still a little nervous. The acupuncture practitioner was a very nice and calm woman, but still… Twenty minutes later, Susan was sitting in a comfortable chair with about 18 needles at various points on her arms and ears. She was very comfortable, and inserting the needles did not hurt at all. After sitting there for 15 minutes, the acupuncture practitioner came in, removed the needles, and that was it. Susan was amazed! A sequence of 6 treatments had been prescribed initially, and they agreed to revisit Susan's symptoms when these were done. She was so happy it was so easy!

We all need energy, right? For that, we all need carnitine for our body to produce energy. But what really is carnitine?

Carnitine is an amino acid-like compound that basically functions in order to help the body in producing the energy that we need in our everyday life. Although carnitine is readily rice in dairy food as well as in meats, some people still take carnitine in the form of a supplement. Why? It is probably for them to enhance their vitality since carnitine has the potential for such purpose.

In the process of producing energy, the carnitine usually carries fatty acids to the factory portion of the cells. In there, the fatty acids are then converted into energy that the human heart, muscles, and the other body tissues can apply.

With a carnitine deficiency in transferring the fatty acids to the right place, the body will gradually corrode and so a feeling of being drained and tired is largely experienced by people. Perhaps one of the major parts of the body that greatly depends in the carnitine is the human heart. So those who are prone to heart attacks are usually given with carnitine in a supplement form to speed up their recovery after a heart attack. Carnitine supplement is also largely given to treat angina or chest pain, congestive heart failure, as well as arrhythmia or irregular heartbeats.

Carnitine is such an important compound in the body. One of the main reasons for that claim is the fact that carnitine plays a vital role in metabolizing a number of other significant substances, which also aid to explain why the carnitine maintains a promise for a variety of ailments.

One of the findings has shown that carnitine has the power to enhance endurance especially in those who are weakened by disease. The compound also boosts an immune response to those who are infected with HIV.

With its acetyl-L-carnitine, which is a form of carnitine that is created naturally in the brain is recently being studied and researched in a supplement form for its great potential as a treatment for memory loss that is largely related with aging and Alzheimer's disease. And in the field of athletic performance, some findings have noted that there is a positive effect of this compound that appears most pronounced for endurance-associated events like cycling and long distance running.

The carnitine supplements which are now greatly made available from various health food stores are specifically beneficial for those who have conditions that can hinder with its absorption, such as various liver and kidney dilemmas, long-term alcohol use, metabolic stress, and a high fat diet in some instances. With any of these concerns, it is then suggested by most experts to better consult with the doctors for guidance before taking the carnitine supplements. It is also considered that a simple urine test can in fact identify the possibility of carnitine deficiency.

And since the amino acids are often prefaced with the letter D or the letter L on supplement labels, it is much better to buy only the L form for the reason that this form closely resembles the form that is being produced naturally by the body. A higher than the standard doses of this compound may apparently promote an unusual body odor.

MonaVie is a delicious and energizing functional beverage made of Brazilian acai berry one of nature’s top super-foods and 18 other nutrient dense fruits.

Detoxification With Monavie Juice and Liquid Cellular Zeolite
By Darren W Chow

The human body is fragile. It comes with natural defenses against harmful bacteria and substances. But when not properly cared for, the body becomes more vulnerable to illnesses and diseases, especially when it’s exposed to harmful substances. Harmful substances can come from the environment, or from the food that we eat.

For example, you will find poisonous gases in the environment, which we inhale almost on a daily basis. Or, you may find toxic liquids in vegetables such as pesticide. These substances are invisible, and sometimes, our bodies may be storing up larger quantities of harmful toxins without us being aware of it - until it’s too late.

Harmful toxins in the body can cause diseases such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, etc. As you can see, these are serious illnesses with dire consequences. Someone with stroke may be paralyzed or may even die from it. Even if a strong-willed individual happens to survive an attack, one must not forget that it is still very difficult to achieve a full recovery. There is no quick solution to this problem. The only sensible way to deal with harmful toxins is to get rid of them on a regular basis. After all, prevention is always better than cure.

The process of getting rid of harmful toxins is called detoxification. There are many ways you can help with the detoxification process. You can drink lots of plain water, or you can take various health supplements that will neutralize the harmful toxins in the body. Two types of health supplements stand out.

Monavie juice.

Monavie juice is a health drink that is produced from the widely known Acai berry. The Acai berry is a deep purple fruit that can be commonly found in swarm lands. Traditionally, this fruit is mostly known to Central and North Americans. However, the fruit has recently attracted a lot of media attention due to its natural healing properties.

The Acai berry has the natural ability to rid a body of harmful toxins. This has been clinically tested, and it was found that the Acai berry’s ability to help with the detox process far surpasses that of other fruits such as grapes or blueberry. Upon consumption of the juice, antioxidants get to work within 2 hours.

Liquid cellular Zeolite.

Another type of mineral that is well known for its detoxification abilities is the Zeolite. Zeolite is formed from volcanic eruptions. When there is an eruption, substances such as lava, ash, salt, etc. are released into the environment. This causes a chemical process to occur, which produces Zeolite. The amazing thing about Zeolite is that it is a negatively charged mineral, which is very rare.

When the body takes in this mineral, Zeolite has the ability to attract harmful toxins, which are positively charged. This helps to remove harmful toxins from the body.

When such health supplements are taken on a regular basis, the immune system of the body starts to strengthen, and the health condition of the body starts to improve. So perhaps it’s a good idea to start consuming some detoxification health supplements.

Weight loss is a common issue today, especially among those who wish to lose weight. Well, as weight loss continually becomes one of the hottest topics of many discussions, many herbal weight loss supplements are greatly lining in shelves at most health food stores and drug outlets.

Today, the most well-known herbal weight loss supplements are the ephedrine or ephedra, guarana, St, John's Wart, and Senna. These herbal weight loss supplements generally act as "fat burners" for the fact that they bolster the metabolism. However, many experts have noted that these herbal weight loss supplements may be as effective as they are in the short term.

For much emphasis, ephedra, as one of the well-known herbal weight loss supplements is a potentially hazardous herb. In fact, the Food and Drug Administration has warned those who applied this herbal weight loss supplement with the fact that this is the major ingredient ion the so called natural herbal alternatives to the now banned prescription "fen-phen", which is an anti-obesity drug.

The ephedra, being one of the popular herbal weight loss supplements is actually the natural source of the amphetamine-like stimulant known as ephedrine. Perhaps the dangers of this form of herbal weight loss supplements is the fact that it has a key ingredient that can act as a powerful decongestant, suppress appetite, and speed the burning of fat, but in the end lead to soaring blood pressures, irregular heartbeat, insomnia, tremors, seizures, heart attack, as well as stroke. In fact, the FDA, over the last five years, has logged 1,000 chronic reactions including 38 deaths that may be greatly associated to ephedra.

With such fact, the Food and Drug Administration has recommended every consumer of herbal weight loss supplements to be wary and to better consult with a specialist before taking any form of herbal weight loss supplements, especially those herbal weight loss supplements containing an amount of ephedra.

In relation to that, it is important to know that herbal weight loss supplements are generally not suggested by any established medical community, including that complete warnings from the Food and Drug Administration. It is then considered that the real problem with herbal weight loss supplements is not really the matter of effectiveness, but their side effects.

With that fact alone, one of the best key for attaining great results then is to better consult with a doctor, as it is mentioned above, for it is only the doctors who will provide you with the proper usage and dosage.

excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis is a dysfunction of the sympathetic nerve chain. A patient suffering from hyperhidrosis are sweating on the physiological needs of the body at a controlled temperature. The body parts most commonly affected are the hands (Palmer hyperhidrosis), feet (consoles for hyperhidrosis), face (erthrophobia), and armpits (axillary sweating). Experts have found that it is indeed a genetic component in this state. In approximately 40% of cases there is a family history of hyperhidrosis, although not everyone knows of a family member who suffers from this disease. In those cases, there is no family history, the patient May, the first to bear these genes. Unfortunately, hyperhidrosis is a lifetime condition and not go away without treatment.

Surgical Options

There has been significant progress in the treatment available to overcome hyperhidrosis. Earlier, surgery to treat this condition was complicated and risky. Today, a procedure called Endoscopic Thoracic Sympathectomy (ETS) is available for patients who are entitled to a lifelong solution. This is a minimally invasive procedure done, as the name suggests, endoscopically, through the spinal sympathetic nerves. It is on a outpatient basis, which means that the patient at home on the same day. It is extremely precise and the complication is very low. There are two methods? Cutting and margins. In the former the nerve is cut, either by electric cautery, or a harmonic scalpel (ultrasonic device). In the latter segment of the nerve that is causing the problem is clamped with titanium clips. The clamping unit method is reversible, while cutting method is not.

Although it significantly reduces sweating in the armpits and palms, the effect may not be permanent. The reason for the repetition is not known. It could be due to the re-growth of nerves that has been clamped. May also patients develop compensatory hyperhidrosis measures in other parts of the body. Post procedure, the patients may also develop drought and a bad skin warmth. It is not recommended for patients with hyperhidrosis for consoles, because they impede May sexual functions of the body.

Not? Surgical Options

There are also non-surgical treatments for hyperhidrosis. These include BOTOX? Lotions, pills, electronic equipment, acupuncture, anti-anxiety medications, beta blockers, biofeedback, and herbal medicines.

Oral medications: Similar to the treatment of peptic ulcer, anticholinergic medications such as Robinul, Ditropan? and Pro-banthine?, have limited success. Side effects include blurred vision and dryness in the mouth.

Beta blockers: are helpful, but not suitable for people with asthma or cardiovascular disease.

Electronic Devices: Drionic is an electric machine, which Iontophoresis to reduce the production of sweat. A weak electrical current is in the hands soaked in water. This treatment must be done on a regular basis, even though success rate is limited.

BOTOX?: This is a short-term treatment of hyperhidrosis, its effects lasting for only three to six months. It is becoming increasingly popular for the treatment of axillary hyperhidrosis. However, its use for the treatment of sweaty palms and soles has not been approved by the FDA. You may have local or general anesthesia, as these injections can be very painful.

In the Far East, ginseng root is used in toothpaste, soft drinks, tea, candy, chewing gum and cigarettes. It also appears on the market as crystals, extract, powder capsules and is sold as the whole root.

Ginseng - An Interesting Plant
By Anne Harvester

In Asian and alternative medicine cultures, ginseng has been thought to have medicinal properties. The plant is from the Panax genus, and has fleshy roots. There are several types of ginseng, including American ginseng, Siberian ginseng, panax ginseng and Korean ginseng.

Photo: naturheal.files.wordpress.com

American ginseng utilizes the roots of the Panax quinquefolium. The dried roots, after being ground into a powder, are used for making a purportedly stress-relieving tea. In Asian medicine traditions, this product is thought to be cooling and soothing, and the highest grades come from eight-year old organic roots.

Siberian ginseng comes from a different plant genus than what is known as ginseng. Its latin name is Eleutherococcus senticosus, and although a different plant it has been used in Russian and Korean traditional medicine, where it is thought to be an aid for improved memory, better endurance, as well as anti-inflammation qualities.

Panax ginseng comes in two main forms: white and red. The white form is air dried, which reduces the amount of water in the root. The red form is steam cured and then dried afterward. The red form is also known as Korean ginseng, since the plant whose roots are used for this product is grown in Korea. This red type has been used in Asian medical traditions, where it is thought to help with male erectile dysfunction. It may also help with those who desire greater energy and stamina, and may help to relieve stress. Traditional medicine also thought that ginseng was an aid that might increase vigor after a debilitating illness, as well as boost the immune system.

The roots of ginseng are prized, and they take a long time to cure. Herbalists can take the roots and allow them to dry for many years at a time, and the length of time can also have an effect on the price of the product.

Ginseng comes in a variety of different forms, and several parts of the plant can be used. A cut and sifted leaf form is available, as is a powder variant. Extracts and root powders are available, and you can find this plant as an ingredient in gum, candy and drinks. Roots may also be purchased whole. Tea made from panax and red roots is also available from quality herb merchants online. You may find it an an ingredient in personal care products such as soap.
As with any herbs, you will want to contact your physician to ask for the best medical advice in terms of your current health, because herbs have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration and should not be taken as a cure or as treatment for any disease.

As an herbalist who spends her time learning about the properties of organic herbs and spices, Anne Harvester has a thorough knowledge of ginseng and its uses. Anne’s advice for purchasing American ginseng can save you time and money.

Ever since scientists first discovered the significant link between degenerative diseases and the presence of free radicals in the body, masses of antioxidant research has occupied the scientific community. Antioxidants, it seemed, were the only substances that work specifically against free radicals, neutralizing them and in the process preventing or repairing the damage they caused.

Antioxidant research is what's behind the saying "an apple a day keeps the doctor away." Though antioxidants aren't necessarily restricted to apples, antioxidant research has found that apples are one of the many rich sources of antioxidants found in fruits.

Antioxidant Research: Antioxidant-Rich Foods

So far, the largest and most advanced antioxidant research that has ever been tackled by the scientific community came up with the most unexpected sources of disease-fighting antioxidants. You might find it surprising to find that among those that's going to occupy the top spots of best antioxidant food sources are unlikely fruits and vegetables, such as beans, artichokes, and even the Russet potato.

Blueberries might have been heralded in recent years for their high antioxidant content but this current antioxidant research suggests that small red beans may contain more disease-fighting antioxidants than both wild and cultivated blueberries. In fact, three of the top five antioxidant rich foods studied in this antioxidant research were beans.

The antioxidant research study also included a selection of nuts and spices for their antioxidant capacity test. Among the nuts and spices, ground cloves, cinnamon, and oregano are rich in antioxidants. It might do you good to sprinkle some of these spices in your everyday food to boost your antioxidant levels in the body.

Antioxidant Research: The Harmful Effects of Oxidation

Oxidation is essential for survival. It is a natural bodily process which normally occurs every time we breathe or do something. It is our body's way of metabolizing nutrients, breaking them down to provide energy which we need in order to perform our normal functions. But as good and as important as oxidation is, it can likewise have negative ripple effect on our system.

During the process of oxidation, harmful byproducts such as free radicals are produced. These free radicals are highly reactive and they act by snatching away electrons from stable molecules, causing damage to cell membranes, cell nucleus, and the cell DNA they contain. Such destruction could lead to degenerative diseases like cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson's.

Recent antioxidant research has led to the belief that antioxidants may play a role in preventing the onset of such diseases. By neutralizing free radicals, antioxidants actually aid in the prevention and perhaps even cure of life-threatening diseases like cancer.

Aromatherapy London UK is considered as an art as it involves a lot of practice in smelling, recognizing and defining scents. When you become more aware of what is being smelled, you also expand your awareness of the environment and sometimes, your perspective of life. The same applies to a specialist in aromatherapy London UK as choosing scents to make a blend for another for therapeutic ends requires not only a lot of experience and knowledge of the scents of essential oils but also to have a little intuition to make the right choice.

What is Aromatherapy London UK?

When you hear the word hypnotist, you usually think of parlor tricks or the fodder for daytime talk shows, where people are put into a deep sleep and then told to do things such as take off their clothes, bark like a dog or whatever else the hypnotist asks the people on stage to do. However, there is much more to hypnotism than just party tricks. Hypnotists, for years, have been helping people lose weight, quit smoking, even become more assertive and less likely to procrastinate. Many people believe in the power of hypnosis and there will always be a demand. So, if you're looking for a new career path and you enjoy helping people, you should consider attending a hypnosis school.

Master The Techniques Of Hypnosis

A hypnosis school will help you learn all there is to know about hypnosis and how it can help people to become the people they want to be. Hypnosis school will teach you techniques to put people in a relaxed state and then it will instruct the student on how to convey messages to the person's subconscious so that, when they wake, they no longer have the bad habits they went to the hypnotist to rid themselves of in the first place.

It should be noted that students who attend hypnosis school will have a new power in their hands. This power should be handled with responsibility and ethically. After all, you are messing with peoples' minds. This carries a lot of responsibility and should be handled with care. Most hypnosis schools will make you take an oath that you will use your hypnosis for good as there is room for abuse in the hands of a not so favorable person.

The people who attend hypnosis school, for the most part, attend because they want to help people with their problems and they believe that the human mind is strong enough to overcome even the biggest of obstacles.

If you've ever wanted to become a hypnotist, there's no time to waste. Look up a hypnosis school near you and ask about admission. Once you graduate from hypnosis school, you will find that you yield a sort of power, a power to do good for people who come to you for help. Just think of all the happy people you'll make once you help them quit smoking, lose weight or become more assertive. Whatever your patients need, you'll be there to assist them, to hypnotize them and to talk with them on a subconscious level, where all those bad habits congregate and must be eradicated.
